Trespass Authorization

Trespass Authorization

A partnership between the Burlington Police Department and property and/or business owners/managers, working together to prevent and discourage illegal and unwanted conduct.

What is a Trespass Authorization Letter?

The Trespass Authorization Letter allows property/business owners or managers an opportunity to authorize the officers of the Burlington Police Department to take action, on your behalf.

How is this program beneficial to me?

Police officers normally do not have the authority to enter private property and request a person(s) to leave the property, without consent of the owner or manager.  This program allows Burlington police officers to contact a person(s) on the property and advise them to leave or remove them if they have no legitimate or lawful purpose to be on the property. The Trespass Program does not increase or guarantee the Burlington Police Department  patrolling the property.

How do I sign up?

To sign up for the program, contact the Burlington Police Department:

By Telephone (360) 755-0921 or Email or you can download our form, fill it out, sign it and return it to BPD.

What happens if I change my mind or sell my property?

You may revoke your Trespass Authorization by notifying BPD of your desire to do so.  Trespass Authorization Letters have no expiration date; if the status of the property changes in any way, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible and arrange for your trespass letter to be updated.
