In order to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and minimize infections, the Community Development/Permit Center has been closed to walk in customers until further notice. This is a proactive measure to ensure the health, well-being, and safety of our customers, community members, and employees.

During this challenging time we remain committed to providing the highest level of customer service. However, we are currently working remotely with limited staff. We will normally try and respond to questions within 24 hours but we ask that you be patient as we adjust to the current situation.

Responsibilities

The City of Burlington’s Building Department regulates the construction of public and private structures from the basic residential storage shed to the most complex commercial building.

As mandated by the State of Washington, the City of Burlington has adopted, by ordinance, the International Building Codes, along with specific state amendments. Through the standards contained in these codes, the Building Department performs plan review and inspection services to ensure that buildings that are constructed and occupied by its citizens are safe, and comply with all fire, life, and safety requirements.
