Responsibilities
The Public Works Department provides and sustains public structures and services essential to the welfare and acceptable quality of life for the citizens of Burlington.
The department directly manages the design, construction, maintenance, and operations of the system of streets, traffic signals, street signs, sidewalks and paths, stormwater drainage, sanitary sewers, and public buildings.
Public Works coordinates with the providers of other utilities for the essential services of drinking water (Skagit Public Utilities District), electricity (Puget Sound Energy) and natural gas (Cascade Natural Gas) as well as other miscellaneous utilities.
Services Provided
The services provided by Public Works are managed through the following departments:
- Facilities Maintenance - maintenance of public buildings and landscaping
- Engineering - technical support
- Stormwater - drainage and water quality
- Sewer - sanitary sewer
- Streets - roadways, signs, and traffic signals
