History of Greenhills Memorial Cemetery
Around the turn of the 19th century, the Maccabee Lodge organized and maintained the Burlington Cemetery. Over time, management was assumed by the Ladies of the Maccabees. When the Burlington Cemetery Association incorporated in 1924, they continued with the care and maintenance for many years until the Association requested transfer of care, development, maintenance, and operation as the needs continued to evolve. The transfer to the City was officially made August 14, 1954.

Perpetual Care Fund

The Perpetual Care Fund invests only in securities authorized by the State of Washington. The principal balance of this Fund must remain fixed, however, interest may be used for care and maintenance. All Greenhills Memorial Cemetery lot sales include Perpetual Care, as 25% of the lot price is placed into this Fund for the purpose of future care and maintenance.
