Making a Mark: Photo ID of Harbor Porpoises in the Salish Sea

Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Cindy Elliser, Research Director with the Pacific Mammal Research organizations in Anacortes will speak on her research on the harbor porpoises. Harbor porpoises are shy and often evasive. They have been traditionally difficult to study and often overshadowed by other more accessible marine species. However they are an important species in the Salish Sea ecosystem, especially after their recent ‘comeback’ to the Puget Sound and the greater Salish Sea region. Come learn about harbor porpoises, why they are important and the research that the Pacific Mammal Research Center is conducting to understand more about this poorly understood marine mammal. Pacific Mammal Research is dedicated to understanding more about their population by conducting photo-ID surveys and the use of passive acoustic technology.
