For those of you from the Burlington area, you know that our town has some great stories to tell. From the work of the Alpha Club in the early 1900s to the development of the greenspaces that make up our current parks and trails, it's the collected efforts of the people from this area that have contributed to the Burlington we know and enjoy today.
Whether your Burlington roots run deep or you're a newcomer to the area, we can all attest to the fact that Burlington is constantly evolving. The thoughts, ideas and actions from community members are what help facilitate this forward movement in a way that is representative of our community as a whole. It is for this reason that the city has the following entities in place: the City of Burlington Historical Preservation Commission and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
The Historical Preservation Commission is made up of local residents who have a passion for history and enjoy being involved in a variety of ways including research, community volunteerism and education to the public.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is made up of community members who have an interest in shaping the future of the parks and trail systems in Burlington, in addition to a variety of recreational events that the city creates, hosts and sponsors.
Both of these groups are currently seeking volunteer representatives. These committees act in an advisory capacity to our City Council and to the Mayor. Each volunteer representative is asked to serve a three-year term. Meetings take place either monthly or quarterly, depending on your commitment. Additional information can be found here:
