Message from the Chief
On behalf of the men and women of the Burlington Police Department, I welcome you to our website and hope you will find it useful and informative. It is intended to provide the public with an additional opportunity for communicating with us and for learning about how we carry out our public safety mission.

I encourage you to read our mission / vision / values statement, which is the foundation of our policing philosophy and used in our decision making process.

The Burlington Police Department is an organization of professional men and women dedicated to providing our citizens and the many visitors to our community with quality law enforcement services. The department consists of 24 commissioned police officers and five civilian support staff.

The Burlington Police Department serves a residential population of 8,400, which dramatically under represents the daily population of 40,000 to 60,000 people attracted to our commercial retail center and the transportation corridors that intersect in our community.

As demands for police services expand, we strive to continually improve our efficiency and effectiveness through innovative proactive policing practices with emphasis on prevention. Police and community collaboration is essential for success.

We recognize that the department’s most valuable asset is our staff. We are committed to providing our staff with the necessary tools, training and working environment to provide excellent law enforcement services, and expand community partnerships. I am very proud of the men and women of the Burlington Police Department and their commitment to providing excellent police services to our communities.

William “Bill” Van Wieringen
Chief of Police
